SINOSURE Hosts Seminar on Capacity Building for ECAs of English-speaking African Countries
From September 4 to 17, the Seminar on Capacity Building for Export Credit Agencies (ECAs) of English-speaking African Countries was held in China. 33 colleagues respectively from UN Economic Commission for Africa, African Union, African Export-Import Bank, African Trade Insurance Agency, Egyptian General Authority for Investment and Free Zones, Export Credit Guarantee Company of Egypt, Nigerian Export-Import Bank, Development Bank of Ethiopia, Export Credit Agency of Senegal, and other institutions joined with SINOSURE in the event in both Beijing and Changsha, Hunan Province.
Jointly initiated by SINOSURE and the Mission of the PRC to the AU, the Seminar was co-hosted by SINOSURE and the Academy for International Business Officials of the Ministry of Commerce and included in the annual foreign aid training programs of the China International Development Cooperation. The event, featuring discussions on “soft connectivity” between China and Africa in terms of technologies, standards, and rules of export credit and insurance, was aimed at promoting common development and mutually beneficial collaborations between China and Africa through capacity building of export credit agencies.
During the two-week event, 9 activities including workshops and site-visits were arranged by SINOSURE.
On September 4, Zhang Hui, Vice President of SINOSURE kicked off the event by addressing the opening ceremony. He reviewed the company’s history and its support for the Belt and Road Initiative, highlighting the significant role of export credit insurance in empowering the development of an open economy based on the experience of SINOSURE.
On September 10, SINOSURE President Sheng Hetai joined in the workshop with African colleagues at the HQs of the company. After reviewing the achievements in building a community with a shared future for China and Africa, especially the outcomes in economic, trade, and investment cooperation, President Sheng proposed three priorities in deepening cooperation with SINOSURE’s African counterparts, namely supporting high-level connectivity, facilitating China-Africa trade, and strengthening information sharing and capacity building.
The Seminar, applauded by all the participants, sponsors and organizers, took place alongside the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation, which exemplified the spirit of friendship and cooperation between China and Africa.
